Description
Sterling silver medal strung on a 24 inch leather cord fastened with a mother of pearl button and loop. The leather necklace may be shortened by simply knotting and trimming the excess.
Cast in sterling silver using an antique brass pattern which was found by earthquake rescue/recovery workers in Mexico.
When Spanish missionaries traveled to Central & South America and Mexico circa 1493, they brought religious medals from Rome to distribute as part of their mission work. When the priests and monks ran out of medals, indigenous craftsmen made crude sand castings of the originals.
This medal depicts the seven archangels surrounding God (Deus), represented as the all-seeing eye contained in a triangle, illustrating the trinity.
